Examples:
(a) A swinging pendulum
(b) The piston of an automobile engine
(c) The balance wheel of a watch
(d) The motion of a vertical spring with a mass hanging
(e) The motion of the hands of the clock
(f) Motion of planets around the sun
Now carefully study the explanation on Periodic Motion.
Periodic Motion: If a body moves back and forth about a mean or equilibrium position, this motion is called Periodic Motion.
This type of motion is also called Oscillatory or Vibratory motion.
Note 1: All periodic motions are not necessarily oscillatory.
Note 2: In the examples listed above, examples (e) and (f) are not Oscillatory motion.
The simplest type of Oscillatory motion is referred to as Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM).
